¡Cosas que hacer en Lowell!

Mar 03, 2022

¿Busca entretenimiento nocturno? Primero está The Grove Comedy Club.

Continuing our journey through the ever-expanding region of Northwest Arkansas, we find ourselves in Siloam Springs. This town is far from forgotten in our little slice of paradise. Siloam is just west of Springdale, skirting along the Oklahoma border. This is within a quick drive to most areas in NWA. Kayak Park

To begin we look to the city’s recreational activities. Mirroring the rest of our idyllic area, Siloam Springs is full of outdoor activities and trails. Although the park has areas to practice your kayak skills, it’s a family attraction suitable for everyone. Enjoy the shallow parts of the park for the little ones, or float the rapids in an inflatable tube for the older water enthusiast. The park does offer changing rooms, bathrooms, parking, a picnic area, climbing boulders for those that don’t want to get in the water, and a rain garden.

Walking Art

Up next, we move into the downtown area to discuss the shopping and all of the local art that is featured throughout the entire Siloam Springs area. While that is a mouthful that means that it will be some of the best coffee available.

John Brown University

A big draw to this Arkansas town is John Brown University. This is a small Christian college with nearly 50 majors and just as many minors, there is plenty of options for their students. Additionally, they do offer a robust graduate program for those that are looking to continue their educations. According to their website, the average class size is 20 students so this school may be perfect for someone who needs more individual attention.

¡Cosas que hacer en Springdale!

Feb 01, 2022

Historia

Things To Do in Bentonville, AR!

Jan 14, 2022

Continuing our exploration of Northwest Arkansas towns, we move to the iconic Bentonville. No matter the season, Bentonville has a vast array of activities. From the beautiful downtown square, the incredible trail systems, the focus on world-renowned artwork, and so much more, it’s hard to cover it all in a 3-minute blog. We will give our picks for things to see and do. Just know that Bentonville is constantly changing and adding new amenities to a packed list of fun!

The Arts

First, Crystal Bridges and The Momentary art museums. Each museum houses incredibly unique features with both indoor and outdoor grounds to explore. A quick distinction between the two, The Momentary is dedicated to modern art while Crystal Bridges hosts an expansive collection amongst its modern art offerings. One generous feature of both museums, they are free to the public.

Crystal Bridges highlights a variety of world-renowned American Artwork. The permanent collection features art spanning five centuries. There is a vast array of mediums including but not limited to paintings, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, and more. You will find many well-known names in the collection, such as renowned artists Georgia O’Keefe and Andy Warhol. The outdoor space at Crystal Bridges also hosts outdoor sculptures amongst 5 miles of walking trails allowing visitors to enjoy the Arkansas scenery as well as the impressive collection.

Opened in 2020 as a satellite facility of Crystal Bridges, The Momentary is housed in a very unconventional space; a former cheese factory. You read that correctly; formerly, a cheese factory turned into a contemporary art space. This is one of the most fascinating aspects of the Momentary, re-envisioning an area that other towns may have overlooked as a by-product of industrial space.

The Momentary focuses on more contemporary art, including performing arts, festivals, and culinary arts. They are also home to several artists in residence, which allows renowned artists to connect to the beauty of Northwest Arkansas and create unique pieces based on that experience.

For the kids, try the Scott Family Amazeum. With several interactive exhibits, kids are encouraged to explore and learn about NWA and the land, people, and industries that built it.

Public Art

Your options for art aren’t limited to the museums. Nearly everywhere you go in Bentonville you are within a stone’s throw from a work of public art. There are over 100 recognized public works of art with many found around the square and the 8th Street Market entertainment district. Most notable is probably the Buckyball at Crystal Bridges, which is a favorite year-round. Relax under BuckyBall with family and friends and watch the colors change. Other works can be found near Crystal Bridges such as “Open Hearts” at Compton Gardens and “LOVE” in the Crystal Bridges Gardens. There are new works added all the time so there is always something new to see.

Mountain Biking

Moving onto one of the best parts of NWA if you enjoy biking, Bentonville is known as the “Mountain Biking Capital of the World.” It may seem boastful to call yourself a capital of anything in the world, but honestly, the riding here is seriously that good. It would be a shame to visit Bentonville and not test out

some of these trail systems if you are so inclined. The purpose-built trails have difficulty ratings for all skill levels, from easy green trails to black diamond, downhill inspired jump lines. Bentonville is home to several trail systems, but two of the most popular trail networks include Slaughter Pen and Coler Mountain Bike Preserve. Slaughter Pen is 23+ miles of single-track, accessible off of Walton Blvd. near the dog park and also along with segments of the Razorback Regional Greenway, the Back 40 trail system, and Crystal Bridges Art Museum. Those that ride the section that follows Crystal Bridges can observe public works of art or stop at the museum itself.

Coler Mountain Bike Preserve was completed in 2020 and has 17+ miles of trails at every skill level. These trails make you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere when in reality they are only two miles from downtown. The more experienced line of trails includes multiple jump lines, rocky sections, and gap jumps. There are also paved trails for those looking for a more leisurely ride or to walk through the trails. On this walking trail, you can find Airship Coffee, a micro-café only accessible via the walk/bike routes. No drive-thrus, no cars, just great coffee and food in a gorgeous natural setting.

Bentonville Square

Another major highlight of Bentonville is the beloved downtown square. This is the most common place to find the farmers market, the Christmas Parade, and First Friday. This is where you will find The 5&10, Walmart Museum and Spark Café, and several other establishments. The Walmart museum welcomes tens of thousands of visitors a year, allowing people to learn some of the retail giant’s history.

Some notable downtown establishments include the Record ( an industrial-style venue), the Meteor Theater, 21c Hotel, and Compton Gardens. Just off the square is where you will find Lawrence Plaza. It is a splash park during the summer, and it is an ice rink in the winter. These are just a few of the activities that are available to you in the square.

Bentonville Food

Finally, let’s talk about some of the incredible food that can be found in Bentonville! You can be sure that there is something for everyone at 8th Street Market. The booths and food trucks are constantly changing and expanding. There is a focus on diverse restaurants at 8th Street Market allowing a foodie to experience cultural dishes from around the globe. And what collection of restaurants would be complete without a local brewery? Try new taps at the famous Bike Rack Brewery, located at the heart of 8th Street Market. Additionally, there are a gluten-free bakery, Brightwater culinary lab, and several food truck options.

While in the square, you must check out Onyx Coffee for a high-quality cup of coffee or tea. Onyx has a passion for providing the very best in beverage choices and using the finest responsibly sourced ingredients. For a full meal in downtown Bentonville, a few delicious recommendations include Table Mesa, Tavola Trattoria, or Preacher’s Son.

Bentonville has plenty to offer everyone who is looking to buy a home here. Whether you are looking for an outdoor adventure or a more city feel, this area has it all. There is art, trails, community spaces and so much more.

We wanted to pause on our tour through Northwest Arkansas to spread some holiday cheer! If you are looking to find some family-friendly ideas on where to take the kids or if you need a festive date night idea, look no further. We are here to bring you a few of our Christmas season activities no matter where in NWA you call home. These are just a couple of the larger events that are going on in Northwest Arkansas through the season, there are almost nightly experiences that you can check out in every city.

Bentonville Square

Kicking us off is Bentonville, Bentonville has one of the most active Downtown Squares in Northwest Arkansas. The holiday season is no exception. Start your night at the holiday lights in the square, with 35 MILES worth of Christmas lights the square is a sight to behold. Once you take in your fill of the lights, walk just past the 21c Hotel to Lawrence Square where the splash pad has been transformed into a beautiful skating rink that is fun for the whole family! You can skate for just $7 a ticket. While you are there, leave a letter for Santa at the Santa House to make sure your Christmas list makes it to the big man himself.

If ice skating isn’t your forte, maybe a mesmerizing stroll through the Ozark forest at North Forest Lights is just your thing. Back for their third season, North Forest Lights is an immersive light experience that is supposed to bring the spirit of the forest to life in front of your eyes. With 5 installations this art exhibit is perfect for a date night or night out with your friends. You can even rent a snow globe to keep you warm while you eat a snack or have a drink.

Many of us here at CBHMF have gone, and unanimously the reviews are incredible!

Fayetteville Lights

Jumping to the most well-lit NWA square, with a whopping 500,000 lights, we move to Fayetteville for Lights of the Ozarks. This is where so many of the iconic photos that you see during the holiday season are taken. It is possibly the most famous light display in NWA and has proudly held that title for several years. The festivities run from 5 pm until 1 am every evening until January 1st. Bring the whole family for winter treats, hot chocolate, and music. Try a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday trip to make sure the little ones can meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.

A date night option in Fayetteville is Holidaze. This is a Christmas-themed pop-up bar that features the infamous snow globes to protect you as the weather gets cooler. Featuring a cocktail menu that is sure to please and the ability to take your drink to-go while you check out the lights, this activity is sure to please.

Silver Dollar City

We wrap up with the extravaganza that is An Old Time Christmas” at Silver Dollar City. We aren’t sure why 6.5 million Christmas Lights and 30 daily shows say “old-time” but we are certainly grateful for the festivities. Other activities include a sing-along steam train, A Dickens’ Christmas Carol, a light parade, and of course the rides running through the night. There is so much to do that we couldn’t write about it all! This experience is well worth the drive!

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year in NWA and these are just some of the season-long activities that you can participate in. Be sure to check out full lists of activities going on in each town at the local news sites like KNWA, 40/29 news, and of course the town sites. Come back in a couple of weeks to return to our trip through Northwest Arkansas and learn some of the fun things to do in Bentonville.

Things To Do In Rogers!

Nov 11, 2021

We continue our “things to do” town series through Northwest Arkansas. We find ourselves in the amazing town of Rogers, Arkansas. This town is much more than a single store. (Rogers is often known for being the town with the first Walmart Supercenter) Rogers has a rich history and so many fun things to do!

The Great Outdoors

Let’s start with just a few of the outdoor options Rogers has to offer and believe me, there is no shortage. Lake Atalanta is a beautiful lake just outside of downtown Rogers that encompasses over 30 acres of water. Visitors can use one of the 6 fishing piers, paddleboard, kayak, and much more around the lake. Although the small motorless vessels are acceptable, this lake is off-limits to motors so you know you’ll be getting a quiet day on the water. The area also features over 4 miles of paved trails and 10 miles of hiking/biking natural trails that circle Lake Atalanta. Stay off the water and hike some of the trails with skill levels available from novice to expert. There is also play equipment and pavilions for you to relax, bring the kids, and have a picnic.

One of the trails from Lake Atalanta will lead you to Railyard Bike Park. This is a natural surface bike park that utilizes various elements to test your skills. With jumps, berms, and even a railcar to ride through, you are sure to get the adrenalin pumping at this superbly built jump park. They also host an area for the little ones so don’t be surprised to see toddlers on Striders in the mix!

Just a few blocks North sits the Railyard Park ( Not to be confused with the bike park). This similarly named park is incredibly unique and often referred to as a “Gateway to Rogers”. As seen below with the painted water towers, the park boasts some of the most captivating and unique play structures for the kiddos you may have ever seen. Let’s just say, this is not your typical playground!

Just a few minutes drive (or ride), from downtown Rogers these linked sites are just a couple of areas in Rogers worth visiting all year round.

War Eagle Mill

Moving on from outdoor sports to some other outdoor activities, stop by the legend of a landmark, War Eagle Mill and Bridge. This is probably most well known by local photographers who point their cameras at this amazing scene. Check almost any local business and somewhere they will have a version of the image hanging up ( Seen above with the red barn). The mill hosts a restaurant, store, and every fall a memorable craft fair that brings thousands of visitors. You can also walk across the one-lane steel bridge next to the mill for another great fishing spot, wade in the creek, picture taking, or enjoy the sunset with loved ones.

Festivals and More

While we are talking about festivals, you won’t want to miss any of the events in Rogers! The most notable event to keep on your calendar is the annual Frisco Festival. It gives the feeling of a neighborhood block party with a variety of food trucks, live music, crafts, and an area full of games and rides for kids of all ages. New this year, the Frisco Festival added a bike block to celebrate Northwest Arkansas’s favorite sport, biking.

As it is nearing the most wonderful time of the year, watch Rogers’s Christmas events throughout town. There is the classic holiday parade through downtown and the Holiday on the Bricks festival to inspire the holiday spirit. Stop by during the Wish List event to fill out your wish list at local shops downtown and receive special promotions and discounts. For those 21 or over, try out Sips on the Bricks. Downtown businesses create one-of-a-kind cocktails and mocktails for patrons to judge. These are just a couple of the plethora of Rogers activities to enjoy.

Places To Eat

While taking in some of the activities mentioned in the previous sections, stop into The 1907. A whole day could be spent in this building alone. What started as a wholesale grocery in 1907, and later became a Dollar Saver, is now a shared housing space. It houses two coffee shops (Onyx Coffee Lab and Doughp) Yeyo’s Mexican Cuisine, and Heirloom fine dining. Because of the amazing food and ambiance, Heirloom reservations are often booked months in advance. If pizza and beer are more your styles, check out The Rail Pizza Company for pizza, wings, and local brews on tap. Or if you just want some bubble tea, stop into the quirky Anime Café. Either way, there is plenty to do in Downtown Rogers.

Local Breweries

Our tour through Rogers would not be complete without mentioning a place to wind down after all the fun! Ozark Brewing Company was the first brewery in Benton County after it became a wet county in 2012. Visitors can enjoy a fleet of brews in the new tasting and taproom. There is plenty to do while you are sampling their brews with a community-driven atmosphere that is perfect for meeting the wonderful folks of NWA. Their beer is on tap in over 100 bars, stores, and restaurants in NWA. A tour could be available but contact the brewery for scheduling.

Don’t miss out on this wonderful place to call home or all the activities that it offers. Rogers is the perfect place to raise a family and purchase your home. Check back in a couple of weeks for some Christmas and holiday activities for the whole family.

Things To Do in Eureka Springs!

It is time for a detour to one of the more well-known gems of Arkansas, Eureka Springs. Eureka is probably most featured on TV shows like “Ghost Adventures” and articles about “America’s Most Haunted Hotels” for the infamous Crescent Hotel. This quirky town is full of haunts and history, making it the perfect trip for the Halloween enthusiast. For those that aren’t into the frights, there is plenty to discover in this little hideaway that was once thought to be the home of a magic healing spring. This may be part of what draws all sorts to the town today.

Historic Downtown

To start, check out the historic downtown shopping areas. These are some of the best shops for local arts and goods. Eureka Springs is home to over 600 local artists. Eureka’s downtown shops are the place to find a plethora of works. They are also available in stores outside of the downtown district and online. If art isn’t your fancy, there is much more to shop for here downtown. One shop to check out is Eureka Springs Soap Stop which is home to all sorts of self-care items. All of these homemade natural products are meant for self-indulgence and overall well-being.

Once you are done making your way through the more conventional shopping stops check in with the working bunnies at East By West. You read that right working bunnies. These adorable critters will help finalize your purchase of unique souvenirs from this one-of-a-kind store. Don’t believe us, click here to go to the working bunnies’ Facebook Page and see them in action!

Trolley Tours

Next, check out some local historic landmarks on the trolley that runs through the entire historic loop and beyond. Several notable places are available as stops including Thorncrown Chapel. This is one of the most beautiful chapels in the state of Arkansas and possibly the United States. This chapel does not have solid walls and instead uses hundreds of glass panels to highlight the beauty of the Ozark mountains around you. All that enter fall to the hush that surrounds upon entering this majestic building. The views are especially spectacular in the fall as you watch the colors change nearly before your eyes. The trolley also continues to many other historic and iconic spots in Eureka such as the Passion Play and the Blue Springs Heritage Center.

Haunted History

This is the part that fits in with the spooky aesthetic of October. Eureka Springs is known to be haunted in more than one location. First up is the historic bank robbery in 1922. This was the first armed robbery to use a getaway car in the United States. All of the potential robbers were killed by townspeople before the car was used. Every year the city does a reenactment of this and tune in next year for a blowout party for the 100th anniversary in September. Next, you walk down the street to the Basin Park Hotel. This hotel has its sketchy history as a casino. The owner broke prohibition laws and is rumored to still inhabit the hotel today.

Our next hotel is reportedly one of the most haunted in America, the grand Crescent Hotel. This beautiful historic hotel is popular for multiple reasons. One is the iconic views that can be seen from every room. The hotel includes a spa, ballroom, and 4 cottages on the property for those that need a little extra room. This hotel has a unique history with the building being used as a women’s college, a hospital, and an exclusive invite-only resort when it first opened. However, possibly the most enticing draw of this hotel is the rumor that it is haunted. Multiple Nationally syndicated paranormal shows have featured this Northwest Arkansas icon.

At one point the Crescent was a “cancer-curing hospital” used by inventor and conman Norman Baker and many of his patients passed away during their stay at the hotel. That being said the supposed hauntings go back further than that. While the hotel was being used as a women’s college, one student wrote home asking for her ouija board to contact someone “on the other side.” Many of these landmarks can be explored through their tours, both haunted and historic.

Good Eats

As usual, we couldn’t wrap this up without mentioning some great places to eat. For lunch or dinner check out Cathouse Lounge. As you enter historic downtown you will find this awesome pub but don’t let the biker bar reputation dissuade you from entering. All are welcome in this pub, and the staff is incredible! This is some of the best bar food in the area with a notable mention for their fish and chips, which are always fresh and crispy.

Finish off your haunted happenings with a sweet treat from Colossal Cupcakes and Cones. These cupcakes are four times the size of your average cupcake and equally as sweet. These are just two mentions among many interesting and delicious options. Other honorable mentions include Ermillio’s Italian Eatery and Local Flavor Cafe. However, if you want to stick with the spooky theme check out the Outer Limits food truck which features a quirky alien theme befitting of such a unique little town.

Don’t let Eureka Springs’ haunted history scare you off. This quirky city is perfect for anyone looking to buy a home supporting their version of bohemia.

Things to do in Lowell, Arkansas!

Sep. 13, 2021

It’s time for another exciting stop on our tour through Northwest Arkansas. We make our way to Lowell, Arkansas. Just south of Rogers, this unassuming town has several hidden gems that make it a great place to buy a home. It is the perfect mix of Southern roots and modern draws.

Ninja Park

One new and exciting added feature of Lowell is the Flip Side Ninja Park. Lowell has been getting some recent attention on American Ninja Warrior. One of the coaches at Flip Side, Owen Dyer, has made it to the qualifiers on this extremely popular show. It’s also a great activity for people of all ages that are looking to challenge themselves and try out an alternative way to get some physical activity. It is the perfect place to hold a birthday party for an active kid if they want something a bit more challenging rather than a Chuck E Cheese ball pit. Anyone that thinks they have what it takes can also book private lessons as a way to sharpen their skills and prepare for their American Ninja Warrior audition or just to kick butt at their company retreat.

Fruit Farm

After you are done becoming a ninja, stop by Vanzant Fruit Farms for a healthy snack to recharge. Vanzant Fruit Farms has been providing fresh produce for your table since 1949. Some of the products available throughout the year include pumpkins, corn, apples, blueberries, and grapes. These are available for as long as they are in season so check back frequently to see what they have. However, It doesn’t stop there… They also have jams, jellies, apple butter, and honey available made directly from products grown on the farm.

Comedy Club

Looking for evening entertainment? First up is The Grove Comedy Club. This comedy club has everything for a fun night out including dinner, drinks, and a show. It is a great date night spot for a couple looking to escape the normal dinner and a movie routine.   They feature everyone from amateur comedians on open mic night to professional comedians with their comedy specials on Netflix and Comedy Central.

Before the show, check out their courts and cornhole. They have spaces available for volleyball, soccer, ultimate frisbee, and the classic cornhole. If you think you have what it takes you can enter their cornhole tournaments nearly every weekend.

For The Kids

For the competitive sort, try out Fast Lanes Entertainment. This one has often been considered a Rogers haunt but don’t be fooled. Lowell proudly claims this attraction. Perfect for family entertaining, this center has something for people of all ages, including a mini roller coaster for the little ones. This location boasts an arcade, bumper cars, laser tag, a VR game system, and bowling all in a large warehouse. It is a great place to hold a birthday party or as a way to get out of the house on a rainy fall day. Open until 1 in the morning on the weekends, it is the ideal place for teenagers to hang out and stay out of trouble.

Mudtown Days

Our final feature from Lowell is their annual Mudtown Days festival. This tradition is steeped in history and is rooted in how the town was founded since ‘mudtown’ was the original nickname for Lowell. This multi-day festival boasts different activities you are sure to enjoy. From concerts to carnival rides, this is everything you would want from a fair. Other notable events include a fishing derby, an iconic mud run that will ruin your clothes, and a firework show you won’t want to miss. This is a must-visit once you buy your dream estate in Northwest Arkansas.
